Short answer

A Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer copy is a replica of Omega's current Constellation. It copies the case shape, the integrated bracelet, the dial print and the half-moon claws on the bezel. It does not copy the movement. "Master Chronometer" is a METAS certification issued for a specific cased watch. No replica carries that certification. Sellers print the words on the dial and caseback anyway.

What the two names mean on the genuine watch

Co-Axial is an escapement design. Omega put it into series production in 1999 with caliber 2500. The escapement uses three pallet jewels instead of two and reduces sliding friction between the pallet stones and the escape wheel.

Master Chronometer is a test protocol, not a feature. METAS tests the complete cased watch, not a bare movement. The protocol covers rate in six positions at 23°C, rate at 33°C, rate after exposure to 15,000 gauss, and water resistance. The pass band is 0 to +5 seconds per day.

What replicas get right

  • Case dimensions. Most 39 mm copies measure within 0.2 mm of the original.
  • Dial print, applied indices, date window position.
  • Sapphire crystal with coating on the inner face.
  • Bracelet taper and the claw shapes on mid and top tier examples.

What replicas get wrong

  • The movement. A Miyota 9015 or a Chinese 2824 clone sits behind the caseback, often with a decorative rotor. The escapement is a standard lever, not co-axial.
  • Magnetism. No replica is tested to 15,000 gauss. Silicon balance springs appear in a few top tier copies. Most use steel.
  • Rate. Expect -15 to +25 seconds per day out of the box. Nothing is regulated to a 0/+5 band.
  • Finishing. Bracelet end links and the inside of the clasp show broach marks.
  • Weight. Copies run 10 to 25 g lighter than the genuine piece on a scale.

Price tiers

Low tier runs $80 to $150. Cases are plated brass or 316L steel with a pressed caseback. Mid tier runs $250 to $450. Top tier runs $500 to $800 and includes a clone movement with a cloned rotor and bridges.

What no replica provides

No METAS card, no factory warranty, no service history, no resale value. Selling a replica as a genuine watch is fraud in the US and the EU. Customs services seize replica shipments at import.

How to test a seller claim

  • Ask for a timegrapher photo with rate, amplitude and beat error.
  • Ask for a weight photo on a digital scale.
  • Ask for a movement photo with the caseback removed.
  • Ask what happens if the watch arrives dead. A seller with no answer has no return policy.

Unknown: the exact factory that builds most Constellation copies. Sellers use invented names. Movement photos are the only reliable identifier.
